Back To Mine With Oddball Creatives

Oddball Creatives is the awesome production union between musical heavyweights – acclaimed singer, songwriter, Joseph Malik and co-producer, musician Daniel Walls (formerly Digital Liquid). Their first Oddball Creatives project was the ‘Only Fans’ single, remixed by X-Press followed by ‘Adult Contemporary’, before the duo shifted focus to producing Kameelah Waheed on singles ‘My Whole World’ and ‘Be A Lion’. As their latest collaboration with Kameelah and award winning Jazz musician Colin Steele, ‘Wondering & Wishing Like Me’, lands on glorious vinyl on Echo Labs, DMCWorld goes Back To Mine with Oddball Creatives.

Joseph Malik:

The Womack Sisters – I Just Don’t Want You (To Say Goodbye)

I adore these sisters and how they bring us to church on this song and the Hammond organ gives me goosebumps every time.

Aja Monet – Elsewhere (featuring Meshell Ndegeocello, Georgia Anne Muldrow)

To have all 3 of these sisters one track truly fills me with joy as this is incredible work.

Jill Scott – Don’t Play

I’m so glad the Queen of Soul hip hop is back in our lives, and this new album is played non-stop in my house.

Jalen Ngonda – Doctrine Of Love

This young brother reminds me of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. He’s the 2nd coming of soul music and his voice and lyrics are the best on planet earth.

Malcolm Strachan – Step On It

Malcolm is THE horn player right now in my opinion, and I recently went to see him play live in Edinburgh, and we are now working on a track together with Chris Franck’s Da Lata.

Daniel Walls:

Radiohead – Idioteque

This band has always been one of my personal favourites as it tickles my techno nerves and is a true masterpiece.

Udytu Utzelturk And His Male Harem – Kario

I will personally never forget when I heard Lena Willikens play this mix at a festival I was at, and what a world class tune digger and may I add Icon.

Moodyman – Sunday Hotel

I’d be a fool if I didn’t add one of the major influences of my life, not just as a fan, but to be inspired to make music from listening and dancing to Moodyman.

Emmanuel Jar – Kaur (Olof Dreijar Remix)

Throbbing tribal drums and chants in African rhythm. It’s soulful and dynamic and my favourite at full blast in the car.

Prince – Hot Thing

I first met Joseph Malik at a party and in our conversation we bonded over our love of Prince, 90s Hip Hop and most of all, Pepe Braddock, and the rest is history.

‘Wondering & Wishing Like Me’ will be released on vinyl on September 4th 2026 on Echo Labs.
