Already a new favourite over at BBC1Xtra, Hull’s Ryder – the 20 year old rising star, gained online notoriety through his ‘Skeptacore’ project, releasing jazz, funk, house, bass edits of popular Skepta tracks, amassing a huge following on TikTok, Spotify and Soundcloud. He caught the attention of Skepta himself, who invited him to create an EP together, ‘48 Hours’. Now he’s released his debut EP, ‘RYDERHOOD’, which is a brilliant genre-busting release and features Ciel, Mono, Drè Six, Daniella Wizard, BXKS and Len & Fimi. DMCWorld goes Back To Mine With Ryder.
Belle and Sebastian – The Boy With the Arab Strap
This was one of my dad’s favourite songs. Reminds me of the long summers I had growing up in Hull.
‘Joy Orbison – Hyph Mngo
This record reminds me of London, the same way Nas’ It Ain’t Hard to Tell’, reminds me of New York.
Jay Electronia – Universal Soldier
I heard this for the first time on a massive pair of speakers in a studio in Brixton around the time this album came out. Universal Soldier is potentially my favourite track in existence.
Aphex Twin – Window Licker
Still can’t wrap my head around the fact a human made this.
M Huncho – Council Flat
My favourite from ’48 Hours’ – served as the soundtrack to my teenage years.
Stevie Wonder – All I Do
I’ve studied this Stevie record like no other. Fun fact, Michael Jackson is featured throughout this song as a backing singer.
Basement Jaxx – Hot ‘n Cold
I remember when I found out about this tune, I had it on repeat for a good 6 months. It sounds like what I think it’d be like to grow up in New York.
Tinashe – 2 On ft. SchoolBoy Q
The sexiest record in existence.
SahBabii – Save iT 4 Me Babii
Actually, I take back what I said, this is the sexiest record in existence.
Young Thug – Memo
Whenever I feel upset, I put Thug on and I’m back to normal.
‘RYDERHOOD’ is out now.
