Following a run successful releases on MIR Music over the past two years, hotly-tipped Ukrainian artist Katy Rise now looks to open up her 2023 tally with the announcement of her stunning new Light House EP. Out now, exclusively via Beatport the two-part Light House EP marks Katy Rise’s eagerly anticipated debut outing on the esteemed Italian label, and comes complete with a show-stopping remix from iconic Greek producer Thodoris Triantafillou.
Known for her deep, melodic soundscapes and euphoric atmospheres, Katy’s unique treatment across the package is wonderfully hypnotic, as she engages the listener from the very first kickdrum. The title track is a truly special record, striking the sweet spot between euphoria and dancefloor energy, as airy pads and stirring waves of melody stamp the record with a truly timeless feel. We caught up with Katy to find out more!
Hi Katy! How are you today?
Hi DMC World! Thanks, I’m great.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself for our DMC audience?
First of all, nice to meet! My name is Katy Rise, I’m DJ and producer.
Where are you based these days?
I’m from Ukraine, currently based in Turkey. It’s an amazing, beautiful country, with great hospitality and people, but as people used to say, “somewhere’s good, but at home it’s always better!” I believe and hope for peace and freedom for my country, for Ukraine.
How did you get started in music? Was there a particular show you attended, or record you bought, that changed everything?
I was always surrounded by music, since my childhood. In a primary school I used to play piano, it was my first love. But later I had to quit piano classes, as I needed to attach a lot more attention to other school subjects. I was constantly studying; all the time was scheduled. But I never gave up on my love for the music. At home we had a large collection of vinyl records and cassettes, that my father was collected and my elder brother always used to listen The Prodigy, Benny Bannassi and Tiesto. As I remember, the key point for me came when I first heard ‘A State Of Trance’ (ASOT) Radio Show, hosted by Armin Van Buuren. Trance music definitely made a huge impact on me and became part of shaping me in electronic music.
You’re about to release your amazing new Light House EP on Natura Viva. What can our readers expect when it’s released later this month?
“Light House” is out now on Beatport and will be available worldwide on other DSP’s April 21 via Natura Viva records. In addition, with Thodoris Triantafillou remix, it’s sounds really special.
“Light House” in words, represents hope to be able to see that there is light, despite all the darkness in the world. There is light in each of us, we just need to find it. For me it took time but I finally found light in producing this track. I’m very happy to share my ‘Light House’ with all of you!
How do you feel about the use and role of social media today? Does it take too much away from the music?
Honestly, I can say that it’s all connected! Nowadays we have much more possibilities and resources than we had 20 years ago. If you want your music / work to be heard and seen, you should definitely be connected and active with your social medias. Sometimes it takes too much away time from music, work and private life, but if you have a possibility and knowledge to use it all, then why not?!
We’re loving watching your incredible livestreams — amazing music played from some truly beautiful locations. How do you go about choosing the locations for these?
Thank you so much! I’m really appreciating that! All started with a project ‘Nature Beat’ in 2020. It’s the organizational movement, where I am taking the role as a co-founder, participating in organizing musical events and festivals. The idea was to connect Music, Nature and Art together in the most unique places. First, we started with my YouTube live streams and now continuing with real audiences, in amazing beautiful locations. In the future we are planning to bring Nature Beat project around the world, with a great artists and music. One day, I hope to make a recording for Cercle music in one of the World’s unique places!
Can you tell us something about yourself that only a few people know about?
If I tell you now, then it will be more than a few people! But for sure, I’m a big sushi lover and chocolate addicted person.
Talk to us about your studio set up. Are you a big fan of hardware?
My home studio is on upgrading stage now. It’s not professional as I would want in the future, but it’s mine. To make music you don’t need to have a huge amount of equipment, for the beginning it’s enough to have your computer / laptop, sound system, audio interface, hard driver, DAW and passion for it. What I have for now are: computer, sound monitors M-Audio BX5, Steinberg Audio interface, Novation MIDIs and Fl studio. Of course, I want much more equipment and better, but for now I think it’s enough.
What are 3 pieces of studio equipment that you’d be lost without?
Computer, DAW and Audio Interface
How do you keep yourself entertained when you’re not making or playing music? Have you checked out any good movies, series, books, or albums you’d recommend?
I wish we could have more hours in a day than 24 hours! In a free time, I like to spend time with my family and pets, I have 2 dogs and 1 cat. Together to go to the beach, to enjoy sunsets. I’m a little bit of an old soul about non-electronic music, love to listen some old but gold music, like Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, etc. And same in the movie choices.
Anything else you’d like to mention before we wrap things up?
For more news, tours, Dj mixes and music releases you can follow me on my social media platforms. I will keep you posted. All the best wishes for everyone! Hope everybody will achieve their year goals and more!
Thank you DMC World! It was a pleasure to talk with you!
