Say hello to one very big album…

Word up Fabian. A big debut album swinging our way in September ‘Say Goodbye’, you first caught our ears back in 2009 with your ‘Heatwave’ track that was all over Radio 1. You have a history of production work spanning  Hip Hop, Electro, Pop and Filtered House – who musically have been your big influences on this beautiful dance journey?

“Well, producers like The Neptunes, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Scott Storch and many others who were pretty much killing dancefloors early 2000’s. I was always a fan of dance music growing up. House records were the first records I bought to DJ in the 8th Grade.”

You hail from Los Angeles, what did you want to be when you grew up?

“I was set on being an architect in like 6th grade. Got a degree and everything, but eventually fell out of that dream and into another.”

What was your worst job before you had before hitting the big time?

“Haha big time huh? It would have to be working for a really crappy restaurant about five years ago. No respect.”

What was your first big break in the music industry?

“I would say being an in-house producer for Bryce Wilson (Groove Theory). It didn’t last very long, due to ‘creative differences’, but that lead to meeting all the awesome people that are part of the reason I am here today.”

Tell us about the Binary family over on the West Coast, how important have they been to your development? You seem to be having a lot of fun out there…

“Well The Binary family consists of seven other very talented acts, who were brought together by Josh and Kyle. They all have influenced myself and my music. We hang out whenever we have the given chance. We are all pretty busy working on our projects, which I believe inspires each other. We’re a hard working bunch. Yes we have a blast here in LA. There is no doubt about that.”

What other producers are you into at the moment?

“Big fan of Oliver right now. Those guys make the cleanest songs out there. Also a lot of the slower disco stuff is really getting some plays on my Ipod right now. My brother just put my on to Amon Tobin, which is some pretty awesome out of the box stuff. I draw some influence from stuff like that. It make me perceive music in a totally different way.”

Talk us through the new album…

“Well I’ll just say this. The album was being created over two years. During these two years I was working on other projects, growing as a musician, growing as a person and dealing with life’s curveballs. This album and each track individually, is a snapshot of those times.”

What is the worst and best thing about living in LA?

“The best thing about LA is that there is no worst thing about living in LA.”

What has been the proudest moment of your career to date?

“Finally putting out this album.”

What is the coolest thing in your house?

“My AC. It gets pretty hot in LA.”

What is the most romantic thing you have ever done for anyone?

“Write a song about them. They never knew it was about them though. Does that still count?”
Ever had your heart broken?

What are the big tunes you are listening to on your iPod right now?

“I have the Deep Purple self titled album on replay right now. EPIC.”

What are the big clubs in LA this summer, the city after all of these years is finally looking a major place in the danceworld…?

“Avalon. Echoplex has some good nights. Standard Rooftop is not a club but it should be. Definitely a few more, but I can’t keep up.”

What is the best record ever made?

“Dr. Dre’s – ‘Chronic 2001′”

What is your guilty pleasure song you don’t like to admit?

“Unfortunately I admit to all my guilty pleasure songs.”

What in your opinion, has been your greatest studio piece of work?

“Something that I just finished. No one has heard it yet.

And finally, what are the plans for 2012?

“I plan on working with a plethora of songwriters to try to place songs, and maybe create some stuff for my next album. Also working on the next LexiconDon album. Im excited for that. So whatever apocalypse is supposed to happen in 2012, better be postponed, because I have a lot of work to do.”

Fabian ‘Say Goodbye’, the debut album is out September 5th, the single ‘Last Flight’ is out now.
