Nick’s NRK label has been going for 14 years and now reaches its 162nd release with this sumptuous four-tracker from the man himself, effectively showing why he’s managed to keep afloat in this minefield of a business. This is proper house music with edgy, bass-propelled techno underpants, kicking off with the title track’s boxy groove and richochet riffs, continuing through ‘[Turn Down] The Lights’ stripping down to bassline and beat rudiments to venture into the sweaty basement and erupt into an old school throbbed of the first degree. ‘Bang The box’ is indeed that 90s classic revisited, while ‘Walkways’ is also bare and tough, with effective jazz trumpet loop joining the organ chords for another butt-shaking nod at house music’s unsoiled groove roots.
