Busy busy busy! These past couple of weeks have been mega in regards to work. Remixing, Djing, promoting, college, meetings…pfff! Exhausting! ‘Secret Society’ was launched a few weeks back at a new venue called Concrete. A few local DJ’s and myself had got bored with the fact there was nowhere you can listen to good techno and minimal on a monthly basis. So ‘Secret Society’ was born for like minded people – out came the fun props including the horse’s head, pig mask and loads of silly wigs, let’s not take ourselves too seriously eh? It was a fun night with a great atmosphere and I can’t wait to for the next one in November. Had a weekend off which was planned for eating, sleeping and watching the cringe worthy X-Factor – all of which did not go quite to plan. I ended up out at Space 2 – the Custard Factory’s warehouse to see Mr Scruff who was really good and entertaining. His mixing was awesome as he dropped broken beats into reggae into soul. I struggled at first to find my rhythm when dancing but nothing a couple of vodkas couldn’t sort out! I ventured up the road tothe ‘Below’ Warehouse party which I have now nicknamed ‘Hello’, you spend most of the night walking around bumping into people you know saying “hello” – but nothing much else. College is proving to be as much fun as it was last year, we are now learning to write music to film with added sound effects for good measure. I chose Event Horizon and the scene is pretty gruesome…frightening my tutors no end as they worry over the only girl in the class with morbid taste in films. In reality, I chose a sci-fi film, as I know my music will suit it down to a T (T for techno, obviously!) Got a good few weekends coming up so have been downloading new tracks, to get my sets topped up with the latest music, here are my top 3 tunes…
Preocoop – Beavers Rose – Baalsaal – Hamburg’s Chopstick and Jonjon turn out the sexiest house record I have heard in a while, deep and sleazy with a lush piano chords…
Alec Troniq – Sub Aquers – Ipoly -Glitchy, quirky and interesting.
Steve Lawler & Alex Tepper – Drumcode – Wicked tribal workout, twirling haunting minimal sounds, this is a new direction for techno I think…
