It’s the new project from Richard File (UNKLE) and Wendy Rae (The Earthlings?) they both met when landed in California’s High Desert. File had replaced DJ Shadow as one-half of UNKLE and was busy collaborating with Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and Producer Chris Goss on War Stories. Wendy Rae had played bass for the earthlings? and her voice had graced albums by artists such as QOTSA and Mark Lanegan. It was in Joshua Tree’s mythical studio Rancho de la Luna where the two crossed paths for the first time. Rich explains “I realized immediately after our first encounter that we needed to work together.”
What began as an informal jam session in LA quickly provided a strong foundation for what would become a full-length album. In 2007 Wendy Rae made the jump from LA to London and since then the two have been working towards something extraordinary.
The successful result of their collaboration is directly linked to their backgrounds in different musical worlds. File came from electronic dance music and beat crafting; Wendy Rae came by way of full-out rock. She explains, “We’re pushing each other’s boundaries. We’re both having to do things in a different way.” Their respective methods complement one another and culminate in a captivating hybrid.
