Make some noise DMC…

How did you decide on your own name as a Turntablist artist?
“Writing down random things in my native Danish and then translating
them to English. Then I picked the one that sounded the best.”

Who is the best technical Turntablist of all time?
“Q-Bert, every time.”

What are the most important five records that you have ever used as a
Turntablist in a DMC Final.?
“Al Nafiysh ‘It’s Time’, LL Cool J ‘Rock The Bells’ Run DMC ‘Peter
Piper, Incredible Bongo Rock Band ‘Apache’ and Fab 5 Freddy ‘Change
The Beat’.

What track that when you hear up on stage spun by a rival, do you
always think, ‘oh god not again’
“See the above Dan!”

What is going through your mind as you are waiting to step up on the
biggest stage of your life moments before you hit the stage?
“Honestly? That I don’t fuck up!”

Who in your opinion, has been the best ever DMC Champ we have ever had?
“Cash Money”

Who in your opinion is the greatest ever hip hop deejay and why?
“DJ Revolution. Cause he can do it all. Radio, Club, Showcase, you
name it.”

Have you ever witnessed a Title where the DJ, in your opinion, was
robbed?
“That would have to be the 91 DMC world finals, where Q-Bert got
robbed.”

Best Hip Hop record ever made?
“Too many to choose from, but ATCQ`s “Scenario” is a good shot at it.”

Which one Turntablist over the years has performed the ‘one piece’ of
magic in his set that you simply had to look away in absolute disbelief?
“Q-Bert – several times Dan.”

How many weeks/months before the big night do you start planning your
set?
“Good question. However, I make up my club sets as I go along. But for
competitions, I used to practice about seven hours a day for six to
eight months.”

How many records do you own?
“About 5000”

What did your parents think back in the day of your chosen career
profession?
“Another great question close to me. My mum thought I`d always win the
World, she always believed in me.”

The DMC World Mixing Finals are 25 years young/old this year – how do
you think the art of this craft has changed over the years?
“More technique these days, they left the crowd behind when they
started using custom records. Soon as somebody starts juggling records/
songs that people are familiar with, they will allow the crowd to see
the genius in their performance. Something that these days are
reserved for the trained eyes and ears of the judges, and other
Turntablists.”

How did winning the DMC title change your life?
“It`s the the pinnacle of a DJ`s life and it will follow me for the
rest of my life. I’m proud of that.”

What country that you have visited after winning the DMC title has
really blown your mind?
“Australia always send me wild.”

What one Turntablist would you choose from 1985 to the present day –
any category – would you like to battle against?
“Ha! Nobody nowadays, I’ve retired from that scene.”

Can you breakdance?
“Only when I’m drunk!”

And finally, please give DMC a message of love for pioneering this
amazing artform we have…
Thank you DMC for giving us DJs a stage to show the world our
abilities – and thank you Tony Prince for always being a great guy.
Lots of love.”
