Timo, an amazing collaboration of remixes for ‘Wonderlust Bug’ with some huge names splattered all over it on remix duties. Why did you want to bring a new version out?
I felt that with a few of the singles already remixed and going down well on websites like Beatport which were being bought predominantly by DJs that if I packaged them all up in a double CD then I could reach a much wider audience and make it more of a home listening album rather than just aiming it at the dance floor.
What are your personal favourite remixes on the album? – Who really delivered something you maybe weren’t expecting?
I absolutely love the Akashic 11 Dubstep remix of Boom (track 2 CD 1) which came as a bit of a shock because I’d never heard any of their production before this. Basically an old mate of mine JD Birch asked if he could do a remix for me and because I’ve always been a massive fan of his mix tapes I thought why not and gave them a shot and they gave me one of my favourite remixes of the album; which incidentally just shot straight up the dubstep charts on Beatport!
Other particular favourites are both Eric Kupper and Timmy Stewart’s remixes of The Hang Drum Track and James Harcourt’s mix of Wonderlust, which goes off every time in the clubs and has become my set starter at many events!
What are your big ten tunes you are spinning at the moment?
1. Timo Garcia ft Manu Delago – The Hang Drum Track (Kupper’s Tokyo Blue Mix) [Berwick Street Records]
2. Ricky Ryan – Moskito Tool [Berwick Street Records]
3. Cashmere – Mushroom Market [VIVa Music]
4. DJ Pierre – Stress or Justice (Timo Garcia remix) [Afro Acid Digital]
5. Solomun – After Rain Comes Sun (Joris Voorn Dusty Dub Stab) [DIYNAMIC]
6. TRNSSTR – The Joker (Timmo & PHM We Love remix…) [Berwick Street Records]
7. Tim Green – Lone Time [Cocoon Recordings]
8. Nic Fanciulli – Feed The Freezer [Rejected]
9. Code 718 – Equinox (Henrik Schwarz Remix) [Strictly Rhythm]
10. Timo Garcia – Swing Thing (Fool 4 U) ft Sam Obernik (Analog People In A Digital World Remix) [Nervous Records]
The list of ‘big up’s’ from famous DJs is incredible, who’s comment really was the most important – and don’t say all of them!
I’ve been a massive fan of Laurent Garnier since I lived in Paris back in 1992 where every Thursday night I went to the Rex club for his Wake Up night so it’s great to hear he is supporting the album.
How long was the process in getting all of the remixes together, did you just pick who you wanted involved and then let them deliver the magic? – Did you reject any!!!!
I started getting remixes done on some of these tracks over a year ago but as soon as the original Wonderlust Bug album came out in Spring 09 I started seriously planning this one; and yes there were a few which didn’t make it to the final cut!
Who was your favourite character in Magic Roundabout?
Zebedee…. boing!
Best club you have played at in the last 6 months?
It’s not so much a club but a festival I just got back from playing in Brazil on a cruise ship called the MOB Festival. 2500 clubbers dancing to 72 hours non stop music with some massive headliners… amazing

And also – is there a particular club you have been booked for you are really looking forward to returning to this year?
I’m really looking forward to going back to play at MYNT in Belfast on the 26th March with resident DJ Dale Hooks. It’s part of the Wonderlust Bug The REMIXES album release tour, which actually kicks off next Friday 19th Feb at Ministry of Sound.
I was speaking to Sharam Jey earlier, he was saying how difficult it is running independent labels these days, and now it is more about the music than the money – thoughts?
Yeah, it’s always been more about the music than money but after over 4 years hard graft working on my Berwick Street Records label, doing all the A&R, PR, Marketing, promotion, website updates, royalty accounting, a lot of the artwork and general management it would be nice to make a bit of money back but I guess all these kids stealing and sharing music make sure that will never happen!
What is coming next from the Garcia studio and Berwick Street Records?
There’s plenty in the pipeline for both the label and me. I’ve got my own new productions coming out on Yoshitoshi, Nervous, VVVWI and a few other cool labels soon as well as my collaboration with Sam Obernik which has just come out called Swing Thing (Fool 4 U), which has a wicked remixes from Analog People In A Digital World and Luke Solomon on it. Also remixes I’ve recently done for Justice, DJ Pierre, Louis Vega, Onionz, Smokin’ Jo and Danny Howells are all starting to hit the shops now.
As for the label; having put out tracks by some amazing names such as Yousef, Smokin’ Jo (TRNSSTR), Magik Johnson & Sasse we’re going back to our roots to help promote and develop some of the nu breed from around the globe. So we have releases scheduled from Ricky Ryan (Argentina), U M O O T I V E (Spain), Filth & Splendour (London), Alcatraz Harry & Matt Fear (Leeds) and OD Muzique & Mark Holmes from Manchester. Also we have a few more dates planned at Ministry of Sound for our Berwick Street Sessions with Tim Andresen (19th February), Eric Kupper (16th April), Alex Kenji (18th June) and Solee hopefully in August. So please keep your eyes and ears peeled and check out our website for more news ;o)
