You’ve played some legendary parties over the years and across the globe. What’s your all time favourite party you’ve rocked and why?
Jimmy K-Tel – Without question – Sancho Panza stage, Notting Hill Carnival. It’s free, it’s in the street, it’s a Love Riot
What’s one record that stays in your box that you can’t live without ?
Jimmy K-Tel – This question makes me feel queasy. Please don’t take away my records.
Are you championing any up and coming talented DJs/acts right now?
Jimmy K-Tel – Not really up and coming as he’s been working it for time but Pete Herbert has the midas touch just now.
Sancho Panza released a compilation album to critical acclaim in the past, have you thought about making any music in the future?
Jimmy K-Tel – We’ve done a few cheeky bits and plan to do some more, always good to have a secret weapon in the bag.
Tell us something we don’t know about you. Do you have any quirky hobbies or habits? 😉
Jimmy K-Tel – I’ve been doing tai chi for 7 years
Can you remember what was your 1st ever record you bought ?
Jimmy K-Tel – I remember my sister buying me Love don’t live here anymore by Rose Royce for my birthday and getting dumped by my girlfriend on the same day, that 7″ spoke to me.
How’s your residency going with Rebel Waltz at East Village in Shoreditch, when’s the next one?
Jimmy K-Tel – It’s been absolutely superb. It’s a proper party, uplifting and a bit rude. Next one is Sat 24th July.
What do you think about the super clubs Matter and Fabric closing down recently?
Jimmy K-Tel – They closed?!
Have you got any exciting new gigs coming up- we hear you are playing the Canal party?
Jimmy K-Tel – We’ve got a boat party on Saturday night, Canal party on June 26th, East Village on July 24th and Carnivaaaaaaal from 29th August. A nice spread of really good quality gigs to while away the summer.
Sancho Panza are famous for the largest street part parties and sound systems at Notting Hill Carnival. Is it still something you look forward to each year and do you think it’s changed over the years?
Jimmy K-Tel – Always look forward to Carnival, it’s a really special event. This will be our 17th year and there’s certainly been changes in that time but let’s just say there’s bigger crowds and we’ve got a bigger sound system.
What sort of music should we expect to hear on The Spotty Ship this Saturday, who’s playing and will you be hosting anymore themed boat parties this summer?
Jimmy K-Tel – Kicking off on Saturday we’ve got the excellent Mr Shiver from Size doesn’t Matter crew who will play a bit of funk and disco and move towards house. The rest of boat will be shared by myself, Sancho partner Matt Brown and our guest of honour, Stuart Patterson. Expect good old fashioned quality knees up house music, some tunes even mixed together.
Sancho Panza presents The Spotty Ship on the Thames, Saturday 29th May.
