Hungary in the house!
Welcome to DMCWORLD Bela. You grew up near to Budapest and discovered dance music with Workidz. How did you start to learn about EDM, how old were you and who were the artists you were tuning into?
“Hi DMCWorld! The story started with my headphones when I was a little kid, as it was on my head all the time. In my teens I liked many styles from Rock, Hip Hop, Pop and for sure House, Tech and Techno. My first influences came from Daft Punk, Danny Tenaglia, Carl Cox and Armand Van Helden. When I got the first musicmaker software, I just loved it so much, I instantly knew what I wanted to do in music.”
You were only 16 when you signed to Planetarium Records and two years later to Secret Service Records and soon found yourself in a studio in Cologne in Germany recording. What was that experience like for someone so young, how did that time there influence your sound?
“Yes that I signed to Planetarium Records when I was sixteen. This was my first track ever released on vinyl under the name of Sixteen Providers. The studio time in Cologne was a little bit later. I learnened so much there about the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s music culture, as I made different tracks incorporating disco and many other styles in house, all under different names. At the time I also was a big fan of the Defected label and tried to grab that sound and give it my own twist.”
What did your parents think of this wild start to your working life, did they approve?
“They always asked me: Can you make a living from it? I told them: Yeah I’m working on it! After the first money came in they were well impressed.”
Where is home now?
“In Hungary, city of Vecsés.”
Your tune ‘Plastic Fantastic’ was released through your own Sauna Records and hit the top of the charts. Did you know immediately you had created something special with that record?
“I really didn’t know I had made something special. Just made a track in the vibe I was in at the time. It was actually was quite a surprise to have that release top the charts. To date, that single is still the best in sales and chart positions.”
Talk us through the whole The Nightcrawlers ‘Push The Feeling On’ remix that Roger Sanchez picked up and released through his own Stealth Records. How did that come about and how did you tackle such an incredible record to rework?
“Simple…..I JUST LOVE THAT TRACK!…so I decided to make a bootleg mix out of it. I sent it to all the DJs to play out and received stunning feedback. Roger Sanchez also got a copy and loved it so much, he decided to clear the rights and release it on his label Stealth Records in MY booty remix. I was well happy.”
How did you celebrate Queens Day in your home country last weekend?
“Spend quality time with my fiance and parents on the beach.”
Tell us about the new tune…
“It’s a collab I did with long time friend and fellow DJ/producer Soneec. We wanted to make something that was not to be pigeonholed at the first spin. It has elements of house, tech and garage, exactly what I envision for Mainground Music. Our motto is: It’s not underground music, it’s not mainstream music, it’s Mainground Music. And it has to be god damn funky. Future releases include my solo material as well as tracks from and with my friends: Soneec, Lauer, Canard, Jetro, Musikfabrik, Collective Machine and many more.”
What are the label plans for 2012…
“To have my own releases and remixes on Mainground Music. I will also search for the best new talent here in Hungary (we have a good scene…) and abroad. Running my own label assures me I can always release the music that I want, when I want and from whom I want.”
What has been the best club you have rocked in 2012?
“Hard to mention only one. I loved the Soulvision Festival in Brazil and last week’s Toolroom Knights at Ministry Of Sound in London.”
What is your guilty pleasure song?
“All songs from a Hungarian singer ÁKOS.”
What do you hate about your job?
“Self inflicted headaches and hangovers.”
Who is the finest DJ you have ever witnessed?
“Two actually. Danny Tenaglia and Daft Punk.”
Who is the coolest person on your phone?
“My fiance and friends.”
So we come back to yours after the club, what is the non EDM Back To Mine 10 you spin us to carry on the party…
“After the party I usualy go to straight to bed…hahaha.”
What are the big DJ gigs in the diary you are looking forward to this summer?
“Sunrise Festival in Poland and Beach Festival in Bulgaria. Maybe the beach has something to do with it…”
