Ibiza 2012 Special

What is your favourite memory of Ibiza 2012?

“Think the first trip out in June for my cousins wedding at Es Cubells with my whole family was pretty special. Also the Ritchie Hawtin night called Enter at Space with the Sake bar was really cool.”

Tune of the summer?

“Masters At Work – To Be In Love (Sick Elektrik Rework).”

Most overplayed record of the summer?

“Probably Pirupa ‘Party Non Stop’ but it’s an amazing record and we’re still playing it.”

Favourite resident DJ on the island?

“Solomun at Sankeys or for Defected – both wicked nights.”

Why is Ibiza still the best party location in the world?

“Because it just is. It’s got everything, the best clubs, the best DJs, people from all over the world coming together to party and it’s all set on one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Clubbing Paradise.”

Ibiza is now split straight down the middle with serious DJs spinning quality house and techno on one side, and DJs playing the big room bangers on the other. Discuss…

“I think it’s always been like that in some ways, there have always been the big more commercial nights doing their thing and then there has always been something cool and underground going on. I don’t think it’s possible to have one without the other. I think what DC10 and Sankeys are doing is amazing, they are real no fuss underground club nights, you go in and hear music you’ve never heard before and lose your mind.”

What new party caused the biggest splash in their debut summer this year? And why?

“For us it would be Viva Warriors at Sankeys. Memory is a little hazy from going there but Steve Lawler and Darius Syrossian were tremendous.”

Favourite restaurant and beach in Ibiza?

“Still love partying on Bora Bora, always get up to some serious shenanigans on there, but to chill I like Cala Conta and the Sunset Ashram beach bar.”

Do you think the 123 Rocktronic Festival that featured the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Sting, David Guetta and Tiesto this year is an important addition to the Ibiza summer, or do you think it is a case of one too many party on an already bulging season?

“It’s good to see such diverse artists coming to the island, I don’t really see a problem with it.”

What is the one record that will always remind you of Ibiza…?

“Pete Heller – ‘Big Love’.”

Best venue in Ibiza and why?

“DC10 because it’s impossible to have a bad time in there…we don’t even look at the line up we just go.”

A lot of money has been spent on the island in recent years improving things, what do you think is the biggest improvement on the island?

“No idea sorry, too busy enjoying myself to notice. They could do with sorting the Internet out though…I miss the old dodgy backroads, they were fun on a scooter. So probably the roads are the biggest change. Oh and the new airport sign is naff, I preferred the old one.”

What nationality are the craziest people on the dancefloor?

“Italians.”

Breakthrough artist of 2012?

“Finnebassen.”

If you had to pick one person to go out clubbing with in Ibiza, who would it be?

“Erick Morillo normally has the most girls round him, so him.”

And finally, tell us about your first trip to the white isle…

“15 years old going away for the first time without my parents, staying with my friends family in Cala Llonga. Sneaked off to the West End of San Antonio pretty much every night to drink till we fell over. Still one of the best holidays I’ve ever had.”
