Alix Alvarez’s debut for Ovum comprises of four tracks each exploring differing aspects of House and Techno. For my money it’s the opening track ‘No Loss’ that shines replaying 90’s styled classic keys over edgy percussion while intriguing spoken vocals give it a powerful yet extremely uplifting feel. This is one for the repeat button. ‘‘BDRK’ as the title might suggest is more Detroit flavored with hard handclaps firing off against various electronic notation. Next ‘Champion Sound’ gets twisted with an energetic array of sounds bouncing across the speakers as defiant Dub vocals add a sure fire to the system. ‘Trust Me’ picks up the pace again to finish with pulsating voice edits and repeating organ stabs adding an exciting punch to yet another first rate production.
