Trainspotting with Jimpster

Big tunes form the big hitters.

1. Christopher Rau – Simple Setup (Dérive Schallplatten)
This is one of my tunes of the year.  Deceptively simple as the name suggests but gets seriously under your skin and if it’s dropped at the right time it’s goosebumps all round!

2. Eltron John – Bomby (Linkwood Remix) (S1 Warsaw)
Linkwood is right up there at the top of my favourite UK producers with total consistency and innovation, deepness and the ability to rock a dancefloor in equal measures.  This remix is one of his more sublime productions but seriously heavy still.

3. Kito Jempere – Confusion (Jacob Korn’s Raw Mix) (Freerange Records)
Got to give props to Jacob Korn for this remix of Kito for Freerange.  It’s got a bit of a Wild Pitch vibe to it and the groove and bass are very intense creating great energy on the floor.  All his stuff is ace but this remix has to be one of his strongest productions yet.

4. Baba Stiltz – Our Girls (Studio Barnhus)
Love this slice of crazyness from Axel Boman’s Studio Barnhus label. Apparently it was mastered from cassette tape and that certainly figures when you listen to it. The pitch fluctuates pretty madly in places and if you put it in Ableton the software doesn’t know what the hell’s going on!

5. Max Graef & Andy Hart – Jungle (Heist Recordings)
Max Graef is a man on a mission!  Everything he’s done in the last 12 months has been solid gold with a unique sound and bringing the funk and raw, sampled vibe back into house music. His Box Aus Holz label gets better and better, and his collaborations with the likes of Andy Hart and Muff Deep stay deep and leftfield but never lose sight of the dance floor. This one on Detroit Swindle’s Heist label wrecks it!

6. Jimpster – Porchlight And Rocking Chairs (KiNK Remix) (Freerange)
The unstoppable KiNK does his thing to one of my LP tracks resulting in a dirty yet uplifting epic which I’ve been drawn to close almost every set with the last couple of months.

7. Soul 223 – Fear Of Stopping (Delusions Of Grandeur)
Soul 223 is the alter ego of one of my early inspirations – Stasis – who recorded on ART and B12 in the mid nineties during the ‘intelligent’ techno boom.  For Soul 223 Steve Pickton digs deeper into the disco vaults for earth, live beats and grainy pads, all dubbed out to perfection.

8. Information Ghetto – Inspiration (Specter remix) (Burek)
Burek is a Croatian label making waves with vinyl orientated releases covering a wide range of styles but all with a seriously underground, more experimental vibe. This remix from Chicagoan Specter is super deep and fresh sounding with a hypnotic vibe that draws you in.

9. Secret Society – Propaganda (1Trax)
Whoever this is they’re absolutely rocking it on every release.  Still playing at least one of their tracks in almost every set and the fact that it’s someone I know but can’t work out is killing me.

10. Atjazz & Jullian Gomez – Grow (feat. John Agesilas) (Atjazz Record Company)
Atjazz always comes correct with the soulful vibes and his new LP with Jullian Gomez is packed full of quality music. I’m picking this one for playing out though as it’s just a little more tracky and deep and hypnotic which is just the way I like it innit.
