At the tender age of 21, Gerry Read has already notched up an impressive back catalogue and two albums. In its original skin, ‘Shrubby’ is a fragile seeming filament, shivering on a tech house breeze but there’s power in those drums and subs make no mistake. Redshape’s ‘Not So Serious’ mix is a razor sharp cut that Aphex Twin fans will adore. ‘ZigZag’ is a feather light tickle on your tech house tummy whilst Redshape’s Disco Scope mix of ‘Shrubby’ is all about the repeated loops – percussion, vocals, sustained strings, snarling bass line and ricocheting beats all taking turns in the rave relay. If you like distressed tech house with melodic soul, then the ‘Shrubby’ EP bears much fruit.
