Bodhi vs George The Poet’s ‘My City’ is a spoken word or slam led excursion with a heavy London accent and a thud thud thud kick that makes the highest quality sub woofers feel almost inadequate. Add some chk chk click click percussive top end a bassline that rolls out like a red carpet and all of a sudden you’re lost in a haze of afrohouse that seduces with voodoo skill. If I was a betting woman I would put money on this being in Gilles Peterson’s disco arsenal. It’s that kind of London Underground sound. Respect to Island records for having the balls to license it.
