Another WMC sampler and it’s a corker, dishing out four juicy items from two French labels at the forefront of the country’s recent acid house revival. Over the last 20 years, acid house has gained speed but originally it came in around the early 120 bpm mark -which is what Remork do on the 303-driven ‘Bemelo’, which comes on like a cross between Phuture and Hardfloor before mournful strings change the mood. J Rod & Pat Nice turn in an unreleased acid dub of ‘Peter Pan Jackin’ Freak’ which establishes a fine, hypnotic momentum via funky bass and muttering hiphop guy. Then Mr303 comes in to take it onwards and upwards. Marc Romboy Vs FYTA & Ray Wilbern spearhead the more electro-tinged B side with ‘Shake It Again’ before Shonky’s ‘ClubKidz’ enters slightly seedy Gigolo territory, adding Envoy-like vocals. All good stuff mining the true foraging spirit of acid house.
