Propulse – Knight Rider

After lots of great singles from the likes of Pillow Talk, Death on the Balcony and a great full length from club owner, resident DJ and label boss Renato Ratier, the D Edge imprint now serves up its next full-length album project. It comes from Propulse who is well known in Brazil and is a resident at the club. As well as being a great DJ, he also plays live, runs his own music company, Transmit Music, and has released on a number of different labels. The album in a concept album that documents, in sound, a night at D Edge from start to finish. It opens with the sound of someone getting in to their car, driving to the club and unlocking the doors before heading in and as such shows fine found sound recording skills. After that intro the grooves proper being, with stripped back, sinewy tech house setting the mood from the off. After that there are all manner of spooky house grooves, spangled basslines and inventive percussive patterns taking us forwards. There are dark and ghoulish voices and shadowy moods later on to no doubt reflect what happens in the club as the night rolls on, and even a trip out to the smoking area featuring lots of muffled voices. Over all the album really captures a nice vibe and is a fine and fulsome artistic statement from Propulse who proves he can do lots of different grooves with equal style.
