Leo Leal’s Unike Muzik is a New York and Mexico based label that aims to bring an esteemed collective together under a shared love of forward-reaching house and techno. For their next trick they enlist the label boss Leo in cahoots with Daniel Cantisani for a trippy EP of experimental house that is super fresh sounding. Beautiful Stranger is the first EP and is a deep and ponderous affair with great synth lines that sweep out in all directions as a nagging little bass hook drives things on. Rolling drums sound live not programmed and it’s a heartfelt track as a result. Venerated deep smith Sascha Dive then remixes the same track into a more beat driven, direct to the dancefloor affair with reverbing percussive lines that come straight from dub techno and melt over and over again. The other original is Overheim’s Assylum, which finds pattering drums rolling over alien lines, moody drums tumbling beneath abstract synths and sombre pianos chords tie it all together. The legendary Emerson Todd remixes this one into a no messing tech house stomper that will get dancefloors sweating in no time.
