Fatima Yamaha ‘What’s A Girl To Do’ (Dekmantel Records/Magnetron Music)

As euphoric as dance music is, there’s not many records you could describe as truly joyous. This is 100% one of those scant few however, the eleven year old hauntingly beautiful electronic number which samples Lost in Translation an unreal piece of music. It’s getting a vinyl repress on Dekmantel records after an existence of £100 transactions for the original 12″ on Irish imprint D1 records, and consequently a track that has been the epitome of slow burn both on an aural and appreciation level is now set to dominate the world.

The reason for the demand is that synth line, which manages to be exotic and familiar at the same time. You’ll definitely have felt like you’ve heard this before, and whilst many of you will have on more discerning floors it’s that infectious you’ll equally feel like you’ve stumbled across it even if you haven’t. You soon will, because this summer it is inescapably turning it into this decade’s equivalent of ‘Rej’ (despite being older than it). It’s majestic stuff, a record that acts as a wonderful break in the abyss of the thud of the rave to warm your heart and give you one of those lovely giddy grins that are literally the best thing about clubland.

Whilst a DJ Haus four to the floor edit is useful in a set the original is still where it’s at, with both available online in the right (legal) places for free. For vinyl enthusiasts though this repress is nirvana. It’s the greatest record Metro Area never made, and has already been caned relentlessly over the summer everywhere from Sonar to the Garden Festival, it’s omnipresence underlined not only by it’s charm but also it’s versatility. We’ve closed sets with it, played it in warm ups and soothed our heads at afterparties with it, and all three extra tracks are worth the entrance price alone too. It might be over a decade old but this is hands down the record of the year for us.
