Jey Kurmis – Grace – (Exploited Ghetto)

I do have rather a soft spot for Exploited Ghetto : it has a knack of unearthing tasty talents with its keen a&r nose. Here Leeds based producer Jey Kurmis delivers a tantalising techno triptych that bounces like a baby wearing a rubber diaper. ‘Grace’ is all of the above with weirded out vocal insertions and the sort of crisp and crackling 808s that pan, loop and cycle quickly enough to make your eyes do that cross eyed / around the world dance in their sockets. ‘Hooper’ is an straight four four groove with a smudgy sub bottom end and to close ‘Jhilly’ runs with the wind in its mane then jumps fences, brambles, hedges and breakdowns like a true thoroughbred. Simple, solid, satisfying.
