Persica – Celtic Soul – (Mile End Records)

Mile End Records, more than 10 years old now, have firmly stamped their authority on the Canadian electronic music scene. With their house focus, they have been at the heart of the growth of the Canadian house scene, helping artists like Roy Davis Jr. emerge into the superstars they are now. And now we have ‘Celtic Soul’, coming from Persica, Darius Syrossians more techno focussed alias.

The 3 tracker is made up of 2 originals and a remix from Darius as his more tech-house self.

Opener ‘Celtic Soul’ is a proper house anthem, with a sliding bass line, cool stabs and vocal yelps. It gets a harder, chunky reworking from Darius’ remix, and with firm kicks and raven sirens, it has all the hallmarks of a winner. ‘Purple Door’ is a proper, thick house cut. With slinky, airy hi hats and driving bass as well as plenty of drum fills, it’s one of those bound to get you moving. Based on this, it’s safe to say Mile End know exactly what they’re doing, and are leading the way in the Canadian scene. They are at the top of their game right now.
