Edinburgh’s slick machine of in-the-flesh hip-hop and jazz-funk is a triumph in scholarly spontaneity. Its contributors interplaying and translating one another’s brainwaves, Livesciences’ flute flaunting and double bass deals would sound right at home on Grand Central, and there’s a touch of the Ninjas with dope deck-wreck ‘Crawshaw Gets Whooped’ reconstructing The Herbaliser’s ‘Scratchy Noise’. Direct hip-shifters, the slow dripping of candle wax, and the animated covering of all angles by emcee J Seal, put their stage show esteem into even higher realms by the fact it sounds great on disc. A rhapsody in cool.
