JBP
APHROTALK
SOUL JAZZ

Soul Jazz is a damn hot label right now, seemingly on a mission to release the most fucked-up house around right now.  So far, they’re succeeding, and this addition from Japan’s JBP outfit (DJ Sahib, Eiji Takehana, Yasuhiro Nara & Nakamura Yusuke) is only going to further the labels cause.  “Aphrotalk” is totally lost in a sea of Moodyman style fried keys, the tribal beats and organic sounds that underpin the bass just about the only thing keeping it all together.  The flipside, “Amongstone”, opts for seriously fruity spacedelic jazz over a backing track that could’ve been cut from the same cloth as any Chicago release from the last twenty years.  A sound that’s impossible to tie down to one particular year, musically, and obviously revelling in it.  Recommended.
