Back To Mine With Clio

London born, Sydney resident singer / songwriter Clio is the Disco diva alter ego of recording artist Danielle Bellas. Danielle has collaborated with names such as Jud Mahoney, Rishi Rich, and Jon Reichardt. As she embarked on her new Clio project, Paul Brandoli, platinum-accredited songwriter and producer came on board, helping to cultivate and shape a sound for Clio. Clio has since been making waves on the Disco House scene with recent single releases including ‘Deeper In My Love’ (ft Dr Packer Remix) on Funk Shake and ‘We Got Music’ (ft Magnolia Remix) released independently by Clio. As her fabulous new collaboration with Steve Hart, ‘Whateva U Want’, including a tasty remix from Random Soul, lands on Shoosh Records, DMCWorld goes Back To Mine with Clio.

Diana Ross – The Boss

I’ve been singing along to Diana Ross for as long as I can remember. The Supremes were a staple in our house when I was growing up and ‘The Boss’ is in my top 3 disco tracks of all time – it’s a masterpiece. Diana’s soft, yet soulful vocals are perfectly matched with the exquisite production by Ashford & Simpson. I challenge you to sit still while listening to it!

The Shapeshifters – Lola’s Theme

I’m a big fan of the shapeshifters and was lucky enough to meet Simon Marlin last year – he’s a lovely guy. This is such a classic early 00’s track and seeing it performed live by the Ministry of Sound orchestra was one of my top moments of this year!

Tina Turner – River Deep – Mountain High

Tina is one of my favourite female vocalists and I’m a huge admirer of Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” production technique, so this track that combines both of their geniuses is perfection for me. It’s also one of my favourite songs to sing.

Michael Jackson – Remember The Time

The King of Pop will always feature in my playlists, he’s the G.O.A.T. Dangerous is my all-time favourite album. With Teddy Riley’s masterful production and Michael’s incredible vocal delivery, Remember The Time is art at its finest. The 9-minute celebrity studded music video is iconic for so many reasons and you could definitely find me in the 90s in front of the TV, watching the VHS on repeat, trying to learn the dance moves!

Sister Sledge – Thinking of You (Dimitri from Paris Remix)

Dimitri from Paris reimagined and remastered this iconic disco-pop anthem in the best way possible. He managed to keep the original soul of the Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards production while giving it a 21st century makeover. I love how the vocals sing out and the orchestration shines. I saw Nile Rodgers live earlier in the year and was blown away, having him play on one of my tracks would be a dream come true, what a legend!

Jessie Ware – Spotlight

I was hugely inspired by Jessie’s disco-inspired album that this track features on. Her airy, understated vocals on Spotlight, mixed with the sleek, contemporary production and lush harmonies really speak to me. It feels elegant and nostalgic, I’m a big fan!

Toni Braxton – You’re Makin’ Me High

We’re heating things up back at mine now! Toni’s signature sultry vocals and Babyface’s brilliant production are a match made in heaven. I love 90s R&B and Babyface in particular. I definitely had this one on repeat back then. The music video is also super fun!

Janet Jackson – That’s The Way Love Goes

We’re keeping things mellow and sexy with this track. That’s The Way Love Goes is the definition of after party vibes – as the music video demonstrates! Janet has been such a big influence in my life and I love that she’s back on tour, doing what she does best. Like her brother, she is one of the best performers, I’ve seen her live twice and hope I get to see her again soon.

Gladys Knight & The Pips – Midnight Train To Georgia

I’m a sucker for soul music and this one always gets me in the feels. I can just never decide whether to sing along with Gladys on lead, or the Pips with their fun harmonies and background vocals!

Amos Lee – Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight

I was introduced to Amos Lee back in 2005 and was instantly hooked when I heard this song. Seeing him perform an acoustic set at Union Chapel in London was a spiritual experience. I adore his voice and his songwriting. He would definitely close out the after party back at mine.
