After the amazing Carl Craig of Faze Action’s ‘In The Trees’, Juno Records continue their ten year anniversary celebrations with another stone classic given killer remixes. ‘Calypso Of house first appeared in 1989, a nine-minute journey from Italy which planted the house groove amidst ambient and jazzy textures which, with its wave sounds and whoops, blueprinted the Ibiza anthem. That’s here and still sounds intoxicating. The new mixes take the distinct chord progression and give it brilliantly diverse treatments. France’s Julien Jabre takes it into lush, deep house territory. Full Intention’s Jon Pearn and MOS resident Nick Bridges stay true to the spirit with an early 90s Morales-style mix making the most of strings and pianos, while the Greenfingers In The Tub mix works in Larry Heard’s ‘Mystery Of Love’ bassline to devastating effect. What a series this is turning out to be!
