Spoken word house records about the glory days of house music’s past are not
exactly revolutionary, yet still, they hold a certain power to hypnotise,
especially when done well. Step up Sir Piers, who provides the perfect
example. Combining a glorious gospel chorus of “Way Back When” with
addictive drums, bumping bass and keys, and Robert Owens half-spoken /
half-sung paean to the memory of the last great party you had. Quality
remixes from both Liquid People and DirtDiggers, however, the class action
is definitely on that slinky original mix. Perfect house music.
