Not unlike Ashley Beedle’s London Heavy Disco Revue. Mawkish hits the retro path for another ’70s funk-fuelled affair with the material here sounding like lost masters from Curtom and Stax vaults in their glorious prime. The wawa guitar and vintage Moog sounds on ‘No Shampoo’ in particular sound straight outta the Curtis Mayfield bad ass funk era with authenticity running deep through the grooves. While equally high on superlatives is Glitch & Spiller’s mix of ‘Formula Futuro’ where ’80s electronica and disco’s spirit collide head on with influences including Shalamar, the Whispers, Freeeze (‘I.O.U.’) and even Godley & Creme. Bliss.
