Octogen
The Emperor’s Apprentice
Soma

Marco Bernardi rears again as Octogen like a radioactive bison’s boner splattering electronic carnage while never losing sight of primary influences like classic Detroit techno and, on part one of the title track, a lustrous injection of Strictly Rhythm-style deep house. The man’s totally on form at the moment: witness Part Two swelling into a motoring groove, tin cans tied to the back for the rattling effect. ‘Conflicting Bells’ is a no-holds-barred charger with demented bassline while ‘Perimeterfunktioncontrol’ demonstrates just how far he’s come with his mastery of the Motor City sound, a blueprint so strong it can never be dulled but that Marco’s given it his own distinctive slant is a demonstration of his frightening progress.
