Like the Dab Hands’ most recent single ‘Something Come From Nothing’, ‘Handsfree’ in its original form is pure retro goodness with a distinct nod to the late-60s funky hippie soul that emanated from the American West Coast; it was actually originally recorded by Donna Hightower in 1972. It’s a wonderful pastiche of old-meets-new and further underscores why acts like Duffy and Estelle are fairing so well in the current climate. Add club mixes from the ubiquitous Phonat, Heavyfeet and J-Star that cover all the bases, and you have a song that wins without even having to try.
