The feel of later-period Chic and early 80s New York boogie is a rare thing in these soul-less digital days but this little nugget actually beams in from Croatia, where Ilija has his vintage analogue studio and runs his Red Music label. His productions have appeared on other labels [like Rong, Exun, Boogie Farm, most recently ‘Dance Disorder’ on Bear Funk and last year’s ‘Ocean Colour’ for Electric Minds], but releases on Red have been restrained to 15 since 2003, half by Ilija. This is sublime with Nile Rodgers guitar, lush piano and cool vocals all aboard a big boogie bassline, accentuated in the dub and ultra-cool instrumental. No wonder the great Greg Wilson is a fan, the two joining together last year for the Yolanta Sy. If he’s got the GW seal of approval then I need say no more.
