First release on a spin-off from the mighty Juno camp looks like an early 90s NYC underground house biscuit – coming here on vinyl which was a buzz In itself! – and lives up to the promise with three jumping, unpretentious cuts aimed no higher than foot-level on the dancefloor. Produced by Andrew Riley, it starts with the Wild Pitch-style groove-ride of ‘Friday Night’, underpinned by rolling bass, topped with brass stabs and simply doing the job in fine style. ‘Saturday Night’ is a joyful mash of piano samples, female vocal loops and flickering guitar, making for a scrotum-detonating throb-up harking back to a time when these sort of monsters weren’t such a novelty. Finally, Digs from Nottingham’s DIY makes a welcome return to put his own spin, looking at his watch to imagine It’s 5AM eternal and letting fly with deft use of the vocal samples. Do support this as we need more records like this. Yes, records. Big, fat juicy records.
