Nudge-nudge title heralds the return of Dean Muhsin and Louisa Page to the label which released their maiden voyage – ‘The Rouen EP’ – at the beginning of last year, before they took off on a prolific stream of projects for imprints like Tsuba, Murmur and 8Bit. The pair have obviously been honing their skills as ‘Superhero’ rides in on an ancient dub-rhythm sample which doesn’t really make its presence felt until the extremely well-executed drop. The rest of the track is a bongo-splattered 80s-flavoured boogie-beast which is turned into a fabulous slice of deep, tribal house by Remote Area’s Boris Werner and a perfectly-placed African vocal sample.
‘Where’s Ratty’ loops up dub and tribal elements to simple-but-deadly effect, which is then remixed by Romania’s Ali Nasser, tasking it deeper with infectious bassline. This excellent set goes out with the bass-heavy throb-up of ‘Busy’: obviously what this pair have been recently but it’s definitely paying off!
