Never forget that Leeds has given the world LFO, Back 2 Basics, 2020 Vision and a whole welter of new bloods with an intangible knack of pressing the dancefloor destruction button while sculpting startling new electronic shapes. Must be something in the water up there, or the clubs. Forbidden Fruit Recordings was started earlier this year by producer Anth and DJ Mr G with quality in mind. Each release comes with a piece of downloadable art or booklet with specially-commissioned photos. They also have podcasts, remix opportunities and competitions with youtube plans in the pipeline. First, get your gums round these two fine plums from Sweden’s Paul ‘Sven’ Johan and some bloke called Mr Robot – both based in Newcastle – who ram a rusty plug straight into the scrotum of the early hours dancefloor carve-up with wild pitch riffage, twisted vocal bursts, bottomless resonance and subterranean bass frequencies on two tracks called ‘Rejig’ and ‘Deep Penetration’. Leeds’ own Darius Syrossian and Nyra Moore remix the latter, homing in on the groove and completing one of the best examples of filthy late-night proper house around at the moment.
