This has got Classic branded on its pulsating upturned buttocks like that great bull’s bottom in the sky, visible only at those special moments when the white heat tornados of unleashed deep house heaven have blown the roof clean off both club and cranium. For the follow-up to 2008’s ‘Five Easy Pieces’ and eighth release on his Glimpse label, Chris Spero [who also goes by that moniker] has teamed up with Jay Shepeard and Alex Jones to sculpt a multi-hued masterwork, effortlessly referencing house music’s more majestic aspects with dexterity and emotion. Take the opening ‘Colours’, with its euphoric early 90s chords and heavenly melodies adorned with strings, wafting pianos and female vocal touches: absolute class. ‘Lazer Bather’ recalls both early Strictly Rhythm with its stately riffs and deep swells while the bloke-intoned ‘stranded in my spaceship’ narrative is pure old school Chicago. Glimpse is joined by Alex Jones for the scrotumesque ‘Fellaz [Pat 2]’ and ultra-deep ‘Bad Monday’ before Shenoda beautifully remixes Glimpse’s ‘In My Soul’, organ to the fore, and Cesare Vs Disorder take ‘Misunderstood’ to a cavernous chamber ruled by behemoth bass monsters. Finally, Jay goes it alone to invoke the spirit of Mr Fingers with the booming old school riffs and pads of ‘Here Comes’. Hugely recommended.
