Strafe’s seminal dirty jackin’ dancer ‘Set It Off’ originally conceived by legendary disco mixer Walter Gibbons in 1984 inspired by the development of the Chicago house sound. Within weeks of its release a ‘Set It Off’ craze spread through the burgeoning underground New York club scene after being championed by Larry Levan at the Garage. It spawned countless remakes including this latest from Italian musician Alessandro Russo (aka Slok) and Manchester broadcaster DJ Paulette. Both are now based in Paris and together they revisit the mesmerizing vocal hook woven into a spare but hauntingly atmospheric rhythm bed to terrific effect.
