James Teej
Space Oddity
My Favourite Robot

Pretty brave of Mr Teej to take on Bowie’s late 60s lunar classic but he does an interesting job planting suitably floaty vocals over a deep, early 90s NY house backdrop. This is the closest the package get to the song as Rekids’ Toby Tobias uses it as a lunch-pad for a ten-minute voyage into swooshing space-house before returning later with a 14-minute dub-house epic which takes Major Tom to the outer limits; ebbing, flowing and pulsing through meteor showers and intergalactic chemical toilets, all underpinned by funked-up bass. Elsewhere, label honchos My Favorite Robot pump up the dream element with Detroit-style swells and druggy ambience before Montreal’s Maher Daniel boosts the bass for a bumpier workout.
