Cipy – Bird in Hand EP (connected)
After contributing to connectedbeats edition1 in 2019 with his track, ’Zinder’ which gained the support of Black Coffee, Themba and Rise amongst others, Naples born, Barcelona based Cipy returns to connected for his own EP. Italian producer Cipy has been building a solid following since arriving on the scene a decade ago, via releases for the likes of Rawthentic, Kindish and Monique Musique. Recent output for Upon. You, Katermukke and of course connected have further bolstered his position and that continues here with the superb ‘Bird in Hand’ EP. Things open with the title track, a pulsing and hypnotic affair with a strangely off balance groove that gives the sense of walking a high wire. An intense breakdown adds to the drama whilst synthetic vocals bring an otherworldly feel to proceedings. Next up, ‘Coupon’ brings a chuggy but entrancing vibe with a subtle yet melodic feel to it. ‘Amman’ has a more stripped back approach with pared back synth parts playing off the deliciously deep groove. Finally ‘Utopia’ brings an emotive soundscape of melancholic synths, muted stabs and a heartfelt but ethereal vocal from KnowKontrol to close things off in style.
