Back To Mine with R.EK

Audiofly feat. Robert Owens – Love Is A Drug’

For me, this track has such an intimate vibe, and at the same time something dark. In my opinion a perfect mix between groove and dark feelings. I love to play that track as an opener in my freestyle DJ sets. It brings such a great intimate vibe to the club.

Robag Wruhme – Nata Alma (Club Smash Hit Version)’

At the moment one of my favorite tracks. Such a fine and fantastic way to add vocals to a deep emotional track. Actually, I did some tracks for a podcast with this one as a starter. I’m addicted to Robag Wruhme. Every track of him has something special. Just really good music.

Definition, Def:Play – Tulipe Noir (Original Mix)’

In Switzerland, we really have many great producers who influence the world wide scene. Adriatique, Jimi Jules, Deetron, Andrea Oliva and Animal Trainer — just to name some of them. Definition is based in Zürich, and for me he is also a game changer producer. It’s one of those tracks I listen to when I need a melancholic track that contains just a little bit of hope. But Switzerland is definitely a world wide game player for this music genre.

Maceo Plex & Gabriel Ananda – Solitary Daze’

I think no words will be enough to explain this track. I’m listing it here because it had a big impact on how I learned to understand what techno and electronic music is. Actually, I had the honor to be at a party this year (Electron Geneva) where Laurent Garnier performed this track at 8 o’clock in the morning. Here again, no words can describe what I felt in that moment. It made me realize how powerful Laurent Garnier is behind the decks.

H@k – Body & Soul (Vocal Mix)’

When I stumbled upon this track, it felt like Christmas. I love that kind of music when I want to party behind my decks with the crowd. This track delivers the ultimate 90s vibe: There is funk, soul, hiphop and techno, all at the same time. A banger like “Groove is in the Heart” by Deee-Lite was.

Gorgon City – Cycles’

I had the pleasure to meet and play with one of the guys behind “Gorgon City” for a small Swiss tour some time ago. He made a remix for me, and the track is just totally outstanding and big. Really a fantastic guy and his partner with whom he performs as “Gorgon City” is also a great producer. This track is one of those that melt the British and the German vibes into one fantastic masterpiece.

M.A.N.D.Y. – Twisted Sister (Uffe Remix)’

And then comes this one! If you ever produce such a tremendous track, you’ve reached the pinnacle. The idea, editing, mixing, and the tempo are pure perfection. You need to listen to it, loud and from the beginning to the end; then you’ll understand what I mean. For me as a producer, this is a reference track.

Terranova – Question Mark feat. Tomas Høffding (KiNK Mix)’

KINK: You have to see him live and meet him to understand why he is at the top of what he’s doing. I worked in a collective in my hometown back in the days, and we invited him to play one of his first live sets in Switzerland, I think it was in 2012. Just amazing and he’s really one of the kindest person I’ve ever met. The track is just KINK. Can’t put it into words. Just KINK! 🙂

Whitesquare – Commune (Original mix)’

And this kind of music makes me shake my ass in the club. Dark, heavy, mysterious, and warm at the same time. So minimalistic and so full. When I want the crowd to start the rave, I play this one. There are some tracks in my live set that manage to bring up this kind of atmosphere, too. But Mr. Whitesquare is the master of creating these vibes.

Murphy Jax feat. Mike Dunn – it’s The Music (Jack For Daze – HQ)’

The first time I heard this track was in a David Mayer DJ set at the Watergate Club. I’m usually not that into old school dance music, but this track is truly great. Still a club banger and timeless like Daft Punk.

R.EK – Krills/Waiting (KnotenMusic)’

KnotenMusic end the year on a high with two new singles from label mastermind R.EK that once again offer mesmeric techno moods and grooves. Knoten combines music, visual arts and innovative events that establish new links between audience and artist. Swiss boss R.EK is a live techno specialist with an expansive and cinematic sound that is filled with melodic emotion. He is resident DJ at the prestigious Hive Club in Zurich and tears down the walls of convention with his music. Moving opener ‘Krills’ is an atmospheric progressive techno track with building synths and sweeping chords that take you to the skies. It’s filled with clever effects and deft designs that bring the groove to life and ensure crowds will be utterly lost in its majesty. The excellent and darker ‘Waiting’ is just as accomplished: here the bass and synths are more shadowy and late-night, with a sense of tension in the drums and mystery in the whispered male vocals that drift in from above. Slow burning but effective, it’s another tasteful effort from R.EK.
