Chillifunk’s most memorable releases by Dr Bob Jones & Lofty

As the iconic Chillifunk label makes a welcome return with a brand new set of mixes of East West Connection’s classic, ‘Once I’ve Been There’, as well as making much of the label’s treasured back catalogue available digitally for the first time, Dr Bob Jones & Lofty walk us through some of Chillifunk’s most memorable releases.

Verna Francis – Earth Is The Place (Re-visited)

Taken from the fantastic ‘Down To Earth’ album produced by Felix Hopkins which features the horns of Scottie Bayliss. A more jazzy twist on the Nathan Haines classic, which also featured Verna on vocals.

Vanessa Freeman – Show Me

A beautiful piece of Nu Soul from the one and only Vanessa Freeman and produced by the much loved, respected and missed, Mr Phil Asher.

TKolai – Zouk

An Afrobeat stomper from the roots by Taha Elroubi and Nic Laget’s amazing album, ‘Teak All Eye’.

East West Connection & Terry Callier – Tomorrow In Your Eyes

The legend Mr Terry Callier pens a deep underground classic with his unique songwriting and vocal performance, which brings a tear to the eye.

East West Connection feat Pete Trotman – Once I’ve Been There (L and T vocal mix)

Pete Trotman’s vocals pay tribute to the great Norman Connors classic with a new production from L and T project.

Snowboy & The Latin Section – I’ve Got To Learn To Mambo

Yes, I’m biased as he’s been my friend since back in the day, but Snowboy’s musicianship and enthusiasm for everything Latino and more is wonderful, just wonderful!

restless soul – After Hours

A gorgeous slice of jazzy dance from our greatly missed talented producer / writer, Phil Asher. It sounds as good today as it did back in ’99 – Superb!

East West Connection – East West

A timeless Jazz dance record produced by Lofty & Dr Bob Jones that was massive on the dance floors of Ibiza back in the day. It features the mighty Gary Plumley on Saxophone, yes, this still works, mos def!

True Spirits – Smile

Another modern soul classic gets the Chillifunk treatment with a twist. It’s a full-on production that still fills dance floors worldwide.

East West Connection – the More I Get (Surgery Mix)

EWC’s tribute to Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes’ soulful floor filler. The vocals are courtesy of Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges. “Just can’t get enough, can’t get enough…”

East West Connection ‘Once I’ve Been There’ (incl. L+T Project and Iconix Mixes) is out now on Chillifunk Records
