Da Capo

Da Capo’s brand new album, ‘Indigo Child II: Love & Frequency’, is one of the most anticipated projects in the South African music scene this year as the artist brings us a bold, emotional journey through sound and soul. Boasting a huge discography with millions of streams, Da Capo has become a household name in South Africa for his Afro-House sound. With guest spots at Defected Croatia, Black Coffee in Ibiza and sets in St Tropez, Portugal, Italy, Bali and New York… DMC WORLD decided it was time to check in with the main man…

What inspired the name Indigo Child II: Love & Frequency?

The name is really a continuation of the story I started with ‘Indigo Child’. The first album represented my creative awakening  tapping into something intuitive, spiritual, and beyond the surface. ‘Love & Frequency’ builds on that, but it’s more emotional and refined. Love is one of the highest vibrations we can feel, and frequency speaks to both music and energy. This project is about connecting on a deeper level.

Prior to going in to create this album, did you have concepts or ideas in mind that you wanted to push?

Definitely. I wanted to explore what it means to evolve without losing my essence. I knew I wanted to collaborate more, and to showcase the beauty in fusing my sound with other voices and textures. I also wanted to push the spiritual dimension of my music, for example, how certain sounds can heal, move, or elevate you.

How do you think this album differs in comparison to previous projects?

I think this album is more emotionally layered. The sound is more mature,  both technically and in the storytelling. The first Indigo Child was about discovery. Love & Frequency is about expansion, about having found my lane and now exploring it with more confidence and depth. It also feels warmer, more intimate in places.

You’ve got quite a few features on the album. Tell me how some of these came about?

A lot of them came together organically, and all of them brought such honesty to the tracks we did together. Others were people I connected with during travels and online, and we found synergy in the studio. I’m very intentional about who I work with, and everyone who is on this album, was meant to be on it.

Sonically, where did you draw your inspiration from for this album?

A lot of the inspiration came from the collaborations I did on this project. Working with different artists really opened me up creatively, and each one of them brought something unique to the table. Traveling also influenced me a lot. Being in new places, hearing new sounds and connecting with people, all of that shaped the music.

When the album’s dropped and fans have had time to sit with it properly, is there anything specifically that you’d like them to take away from it?

I want them to feel seen and understood, because this album is for the fans. I want the music to meet them wherever they are emotionally, whether they’re in love, healing, dreaming, or just needing to feel something real. I also hope it encourages people to slow down and really listen. Music is my favourite language, and this album is a love letter to my fans.

Which songs are you most excited to perform, and why?

Definitely Free Spirit with FKA Mash and Julian Place. Fans had already been connecting with it in a big way just from the times I’ve played it live, and the few snippets I’ve shared on socials! It is beautifully emotional and cinematic.

Your career up to this point has come with an incredible number of achievements and opportunities. What kind of things help to keep you grounded amidst the chaos?

Family, first of all, that’s my foundation. And of course the music itself, because it’s a constant reminder of why I started. As cliché as it may sound, the music is the thing that keeps me grounded amidst the chaos.

What advice do you have for aspiring producers and DJs that are looking to take a similar path to you?

Know who you are, and what you have to offer, and stick to it. That’s what attracts authentic people in your journey in the long run. Focus on building your sound, the rest will follow with time, and obviously hard work.

We’ve got the album coming — is there anything else we can expect to see from you this year?

Yes, definitely some visuals, a  live experience or two hopefully, and of course more touring. I want to bring the Love & Frequency world to life, not just through sound but through atmosphere. There may also be a part two of this offering down the line.
