Omicasa

Introducing Omicasa, the multi-generational duo of turntablists Craze and Matsu, making their debuts on Dirtybird with their new single ‘Ultimate’. Nicaraguan-born, Miami-based producer/DJ Craze is the legendary 3x DMC World Champion with producer collabs under his belt including TroyBoi, UZ, Brillz, Four Color Zack and Black V Neck. Inspired by turntablists like Craze, Brooklyn-based producer/DJ Matsu got his start making waves on the DJ battle circuit at Redbull Threestyle and A-Trak’s Goldie Awards. His originals have landed on Fool’s Gold, Nervous Records and IN / ROTATION. And now it’s time to get Dirty…

A huge welcome to DMCWORLD! How did you form Omicasa?

We had been working on Slow Roast together for a few years and had collaborated on some music, but never had a clear direction. Then at Holy Ship Wrecked 2020, we cooked up a house remix of Mobb Deep’s “Drink Away the Pain” that really captured a unique vibe.

A few months later, we went to one of our favorite KBBQ spots in Miami. After (quite) a few Old Fashioneds and some galbi, Omicasa was officially born.

How does an Omicasa DJ set differ from a Craze or Matsu set?

Omicasa sets reflect our shared taste for forward-thinking house music, presented in the party-rocking style we’re individually known for. We aim to deliver tasteful house music that we love in a unique, fresh, and intricate way. Our mix for Dirtybird Radio is a prime example of that style.

What are three must-have songs in an Omicasa DJ set?

“Me N My Cru,” “Ultimate,” and “Big Groove” (unreleased).

How did you get into competitive DJing?

Craze: “I wanted to kill everybody.”

Matsu: “I saw Craze kill everybody and wanted to do the same.”

How has the art of DJing changed or evolved since you started?

Craze: “Technology has advanced the art form of DJing, and it’s empowered me to express myself in new ways! The skill level overall has improved over the years, but there aren’t a lot of people pushing things to the next creative level—they’re just skilled, but all doing the same thing. To keep evolving, I’ve always pushed myself to do something different with each routine or piece of music.”

Matsu: “I started DJing late compared to Craze, around 2014. My first kit was actually the DVS setup that Craze was sponsored by at the time. By then, the line between DJ and producer was already starting to blur. At first, I just wanted to learn skills and scratch like my heroes. But that quickly evolved into party rocking, open-format battles, and now, making music. The Omicasa project has inspired me to combine all those aspects and keep evolving. I feel like my journey reflects the evolution of DJing in the past 10 years.”

What advice would you give to rising turntablists and producers?

Be original, be different. Do what excites you, and don’t follow trends.

Tell us about your new single ‘Ultimate’.

When we started the Omicasa project, we were determined to push ourselves creatively. We want to make music that challenges the norm and moves dance music forward. ‘Ultimate’ is a testament to that intent—it’s a unique record that takes you on a wild ride! We’re honored to release this track on the legendary Dirtybird Records!

What’s next for Omicasa?

Tons of exciting original music, collabs, and edits. We’re just making things that we have fun doing.
