II Faces

Based out of the bustling French capital, long-term friends II Faces have made real headway in the scene since their earliest sets more than five years ago now. Label heads of their very own Origine Records, the pair have worked with leading minimal artists in the form of Giuliano Lomonte and Politics of Dancing. Moreover their own productions have frequently garnered international support, with the likes of Shonky picking up their debut Always Night EP for a special club play at Ibizan institution, DC-10. This November sees the Parisian pairing welcomed to Francesca Lombardo’s Echoe label with their Life Back EP, and today we’re pleased to be speaking to the duo.

Hello II Faces! It’s a pleasure to be speaking with you today! How are you both doing?

Hello guys it’s a pleasure to talk with you today. We are doing good!

We’d love to know where it all started for you guys! How did II Faces begin and what’s the story behind the name?

Our friendship started when we were 17 and we were partying together. We started to DJ in our bedrooms, learning and having fun. We then started to play at some after parties and parties in 2014 and just after we decided to create a real duo, based on years of complicity. We found our style and we wanted to share something personal with our identity. So we needed to find a Name! We were talking on the sofa searching for some ideas in our vinyl collection and we saw Face A and Face B on a vinyl sticker! That’s the story behind II Faces.

You are soon to make your debut on Francesca Lombardo’s Echoe label with your ‘Life Back’ EP. It’s a super EP with tight grooves! How did the EP find its home on Echoe?

We randomly posted unreleased tracks on our social media and we made a post of “Silence” a year ago, that’s how Francesca discovered the track. After that we sent some more tracks over that would match to make an EP!

The EP also features a brilliant remix from the German artists SIS. What did you guys think when you first heard his remix?

It’s good to bring a different range of sounds and we have to say that SIS did a really good job with his remix putting his touch to it while keeping the vibe of the track.

For our readers, how would you describe your sound in your own words?

Our sound is a mix of minimal, house, deep house with a funky touch. Basically it’s based around groovy tunes!

Together you also run your own label, Origine Records. Can you tell us a bit about the label?

We created Origine Rec at the beginning of the II Faces project to release our first tracks as vinyl only. We’re really proud to have collaborated on it with some great producers such as Lee Burton, Terence :Terry, Politics Of Dancing…

Who are some of your greatest musical inspirations?

We have a lot of inspiration coming from funk, disco and 80’s music but also minimal which is why we love to mix those genres.

Thanks for speaking with us today guys! To round off, is there anything else coming up from you that you’d like to share with us?

Thank you guys, we’d just like to thank Francesca for her support and trust!
