INAMAR

With an impressive catalogue of releases on some of the industry’s most important labels, Swiss DJ and producer INAMAR is one of the most exciting talents to emerge onto the dance music circuit over the past few years. Presenting a unique blend of melodic techno and progressive house beats, the rising star now continues her fine run of form with the release of her brand new single ‘Rhythm’ on Sirup Records. DMCWORLD checks in…

Welcome to DMC! For those of our readers who are not yet familiar with your music, can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Thank you for this Interview opportunity, I appreciate it. My real name is Marina, from which my artist name “INAMAR” is derived. I am a music producer and DJ, originally from Zurich. I live in Lugano, where I also have my music studio. I am half Swiss and half Spanish. Music is my greatest passion.

‘Rhythm’ is your latest release on Sirup Records. What do you think sets this track apart from your previous releases, and what can fans expect that’s different or new in your sound?

I think ‘Rhythm’ is a track that energizes people and makes them want to dance. The best feeling when I play the track is to be in rhythm with my audience. That connection is captured in this track.

Can you walk us through your typical studio process when creating a track like ‘Rhythm’? Do you start with melodies, beats, or do you approach it differently each time?

My creative process always starts by jamming on my piano randomly, creating melodies and lyrics. Once I’ve created them, I switch to my DAW Logic Pro X and transmit the final idea.

Your music blends melodic techno with progressive house, genres known for their depth and complexity. What attracts you most to these styles, and how do they allow you to express your creativity?

I’m attracted to these styles, because they create energy and have a powerful intensity that resonates with me. The strength of these genres’ pairs beautifully with the melodies I craft on my piano.

With ‘Rhythm’ following a series of successful singles, what personal or musical goals are you setting for yourself now? Do you feel like you’re pushing into new territory with this track?

It’s actually exactly the style I want. It brings energy to the dance floor and gets people moving, but even when you listen to the song elsewhere, the vocals create a good vibe. I want to continue along this path, experimenting with new synth sounds and pushing my creativity further.

With ‘Rhythm’ having an immersive sound designed for the dancefloor, how much do your DJ sets and crowd reactions influence the music you produce? Do you think about the energy in a club setting when you’re in the studio?

Yes, the crowd has a huge influence. When I’m in the studio, I imagine myself playing the track for an audience, and I put all my energy and good vibes into it to give that feeling to the people on the dance floor. Seeing the crowd smiling and dancing to my tracks makes me the happiest. It’s a magical feeling.

The electronic music world is constantly evolving. How do you stay inspired and keep your sound fresh while still staying true to your core identity as an artist?

I listen to a lot of new music, different genres and styles and am inspired by many and great artists.

I love discovering fresh ideas, and at the same time I’ve developed a strong sense of my core sound. I always make sure that what I create feels authentic and true to my identity as an artist.

As a Swiss artist, do you feel there are any unique influences or characteristics of your local music scene that have shaped your sound or approach to production?

As a Swiss artist, I think the local music scene has had a big influence on my sound.

We also have the Street Parade in Zurich, the world’s largest techno party, which has had a big impact on my music. Every year, it’s a fresh source of inspiration.

What advice would you give to upcoming producers trying to carve out their own niche in the electronic music scene, especially in genres like melodic techno and progressive house?

Produce as much music as you can. With each track, you improve and take your sound to a next level. The same applies to DJing: the more you play, the more confidence you gain, which is true for both producing and performing in front of an audience where you can present your tracks. Learn as much as you can about the music business through books, YouTube, and other resources. I believe that if you have the will and stay focused, you will succeed.

Looking forward, what are your hopes and goals for the next phase of your career?

I’m working on new music and aiming to collaborate with other artists. Additionally, I’m planning to perform abroad as much as possible, sharing my music with an international audience.
