Itona is the newly launched alias from James Vine, aka ENiGMA Dubz – a creative departure from his signature bass-heavy sound. Meaning ito (love) and na (summer) in Japanese, the Itona project was inspired while James was at home during the UK’s lockdown in the middle of 2020. In response to the challenges many were facing, James set about creating uplifting, ethereal and authentic electronic music to help himself and others escape, but still providing a deep and thought provoking outlet.

Itona released two EPs last year on his own Morii Records imprint. You Are So is his first new music of 2021, and marks the start of a run of singles leading up to the release of You in May, completing the trilogy of EPs with his strongest material to date.

And here’s his beautiful Back To Mine chillzone…

Moullinex – Luz

There’s something so captivating and addictive about this track, the way it progresses and the chord layers that build just get under my skin every time. That alongside the video and inspiration behind the footage, I just love it.

San Holo – We’re all just on our way home (ft. Luwten)

Another track that really connects with me on a deep level and makes me feel connected with everything around me, really nostalgic feeling too with those retro sounding drums.

Two Lanes – Never Enough

This tune is the perfect example of subtle yet sophisticated production and ideas. I can’t get over how full it makes me feel and could listen to it on loop.

Clams Casino & Imogen Heap – I’m God

One of the most infectious, nostalgic and powerful pieces of electronic music for me, I can’t explain how I react emotionally to it – a mixture of nostalgia, heart ache and uplifting energy all in once. Takes me somewhere else every time.

Aphex Twin – Flim

This was one of the first alternative electronic tracks I got into from a complete legend in the scene. I heard it back when I was 15. I used to listen to it all the time whilst driving and it always chilled me out and helped me escape, still does to this day.

Bonobo – Recurring

It’s hard to pick one Bonobo track in this list, but there’s something very special about this tune and how it resonates with me. Stunning percussion and intricate authentic production. Makes me think of watching old VHS tapes with my mom and I just love it.

quickly, quickly – Lie

Such a vibe this tune, it’s just the perfect way to chill and zone out. There’s not a care in the world when this is on, in your headphones or your speakers.

Laxcity – Fresh Air

Laxcity was one of the first artists which inspired me to write music under ‘Itona’, great feelings from this piece and such a vibe overall. He’s such a quality producer, nails it time after time.

Ford. – Fruit & Sun

This tune achieves a great balance, one that makes me feel both highly motivated and also really chilled at the same time. Love ford.’s production style and sonic energy.

Fred again.. feat. The Blessed Madonna – Marea

The vibe of this track is so infectious, very uplifting and also so warming. I only recently discovered Fred again.. But I’m so glad I did. Definitely someone you should check out.
