Nullzwei

Nullzwei are bringing their own quirky, vibrant and youthful energy to the underground dance scene. Putting their unique spin on underground sonics, the duo have quickly established their own niche of alternative dance music, proudly laying the groundwork for a new wave of young ravers. Despite only meeting in college five months ago, the German duo (based in Rotterdam) came up with ‘Jesus In Berlin’ as part of a college dissertation to make a Christmas song and later released it onto streaming platforms. Now skyrocketing towards stardom on a wave of viral success, the single charged its way to the #1 spot in the global Spotify Viral Charts for 10 consecutive days as well as already achieving over 10 million views on TikTok to date.

A perfect opportunity for DMCWORLD to grab a world exclusive with the the extraordinary duo…

Hey Nullzwei, welcome to DMC! Please introduce yourselves..

Hi! We’re Chris & Bertha a.k.a. “Nullzwei”. We make alternative dance music that we would describe as edgy, speedy & spicy. With our music, we want to mix up the rave music culture and bring some more fun into everything and take shit less seriously.

You recently released ‘Jesus In Berlin’, which was met with incredible viral success, what was it like to receive that reaction?

It’s kind of a roller coaster. Tik Tok doesn’t warn you to put on your seatbelts, it just pushes you out there and there you go haha. We didn’t expect to reach such a big audience with our first track with a brand new music project which we started over night.

What was the inspiration and meaning behind the track?

Jesus in Berlin was the result of a university assignment. Bertha had to write a Christmas Song as the last assignment of the year and was annoyed by the thought that she had to write a commercial Christmas ballad.

So, we were both wondering how a Christmas song would sound in the Berghain on a techno rave. Sunday at 3AM we had the Jesus in Berlin mp3 airdropped to our phones.

Have you got any new music in the pipeline?

Because Jesus in Berlin was the first  electronic song we ever made together, we are currently focusing on writing as much as we can to be ready to drop some more spicy tunes to keep up with the hype of the Jesus track.

What direction do you want to take your sound?

It’s very important to us to keep the humoristic, edgy, weird vibe. That’s what we liked about making this first track. Playing with electronic sound design, mixing it with pop elements and blending our voices into one big “whisper monster”.

What’s it like working together?

We started making music together 5 months ago, mostly helping each other with our solo projects. But now we are full time artists, working on Nullzwei together.

It’s the perfect mix of chaotic ideas and structure to get our shit done by the end of the day.

Who would you love to collaborate with in the future?

Dream collab would definitely be working with Cobrah. But we are looking forward to experimenting with our sound and maybe collaborating with people from different genres when we get bored of writing alone 🙂

What artist inspires you and why?

We get a lot of inspiration from the underground German rap scene. We love when artists don’t take themselves too seriously and try out things just for fun. Very inspiring to us are artists with creative concepts for their music and artistic personality like Fred again, Cobrah or Ski Aggu from Germany.

Outside of music, what do you like to do for fun?

We try to leave our apartments at least once a day, but sometimes that becomes “once a week”, because we’re way too addicted to our work. Apparently, fresh air is good to clear your mind, so we’re gonna try to do it more often. But we heard riding a bike is a big thing in the Netherlands where we live haha.

What do you do to relax?

Watching blades of glory and laughing our ass off and cooking fajitas is our way to have a chilled evening.

And finally, what’s next for Nullzwei?

Write enough songs to get on stage in the summer!!!!!!
