Raphael Mader

Rapidly becoming a staple name within the MH&T scene, Raphael Mader is in hot demand right now! Having recently returned to Renaissance with his latest EP, ‘The Blinding’ (https://lnk.to/REN2207D), we felt it the perfect time to have a chat, enjoy!

Hey Raphael, thanks for taking the time to speak with us today! How are you and whereabouts are you based right now?

Hi guys, nice to meet you! I’m at home in Munich at the moment and feel really good, thanks for asking. I just moved into a new apartment recently and am still setting up.

For readers that may not be familiar with you yet, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your sound?
My name is Raphael Mader, 35 and I’ve been producing electronic music for quite a while now. I was able to release my latest work on labels such as Renaissance, Atlant, Oddity and Yotto’s Odd One Out. My productions are always based on my current life as I process my emotional world in them. I love music that makes other people feel your story.

Your forthcoming EP titled ‘The Blinding’ features 4 outstanding tracks. What was the inspiration behind this project?

I wanted to create tracks which show the beauty of life. That’s why “Blinding” and “Sail Away” are very dreamy… Such a long time people were confronted by negativity because of the pandemic – so for me it was time to create something that reminds people of the beautiful things in life. I’m spending a lot of time with my son Lion (he is 2,5 years old) – he gives me so much love, optimism and hope and I think you can hear that!

The release see’s you returning once again to the renowned Renaissance Records. What do you like about this label?

Renaissance is doubtless one of the biggest labels in this genre, with releases of huge artists. I’m proud and grateful to be one of the artists releasing there very regularly. They work very professionally and also have a huge reach of course. It’s always a pleasure 🙂

Lopezhouse were on remix duties for the EP. How did you guys come together for this and what was your reaction when you heard their take on ‘Blinding’?

I was following their music for a while and really love what they’re doing. Renaissance are in good contact with them and suggested them as potential remixers – I loved the idea so I’m really happy to have them on the record.

We’d love to get an insight into your creative process when in the studio?

Sometimes I go into the studio with an idea and record it straight away – sometimes I have no intention and just see where it takes me. But in the end I always work on an idea until the track says exactly what I am currently feeling.

With nightlife returning to some level of normality in places now, how has it been to return to gigging and have there been any events that have stood out for you recently?

Of course it’s wonderful to be able to play in front of people again and to feel their energy – this is what I really missed a lot. I’ve just joined the MFM roster recently and already have some exciting confirmed gigs for the coming weeks which I’m really looking forward to playing!

Thanks for chatting today Raphael and congrats on the EP! To finish off, is there anything else upcoming from yourself that you’d like to share with us?

Thanks a lot for having me, it was a pleasure! Well, I’m spending a lot of time in the studio at the moment working on different projects (solo and collaborations) which hopefully will see the light very soon. I also have some signed new EPs with some great labels – but I can’t reveal too much about that just yet. 😉
