At 32 years of age, Oslo-native and up-and-coming DJ/producer WNDR has already put in two decades of work and gained a reputation for himself in the club scene of his hometown, landed Top 10 tracks in the UK and Ireland and toured heavily across Europe. He went platinum in Norway with his debut single ‘Medicine’ (nearing 5 million streams and still counting), and the song was also playlisted on Norwegian P3. WNDR later went on to release ‘Human’ which went straight into NRK MP3s playlist and ‘Higher – WNDR Remix’ by Lemaitre which got playlisted on Kiss FM, played on SiriusXM as well as grabbed the attention of well-renowned DJ Martin Garrix.
WNDR has gone on to release more outstanding hits with industry-leading labels such as Crosswalk Records, Sony and Epic Tones Records. His most recent single ‘Get Down’ released on 26th May 2023 via Icons Creating Evil Art.
Greetings, WNDR! Thanks for joining us. To start off, how is it going and where are you chatting from?
Hi, Thanks for having me. I am doing well thanks, I’m in Norway enjoying the summer weather at the moment.
The first half of this year seems to be an exciting one for you, with two releases so far (‘Get Down’ and ‘Ghosts (WNDR Remix) – Murdo Mitchell’). Can you explain how it’s felt putting these two singles out?
Yes, it’s been fun getting back to releasing music. To be honest it’s been a bit nerve wracking getting out here again. The remix was fun working with, so great that we got to release it for people to hear. As for “Get Down” the songs a bit important to be personally as was the start of getting me out of a difficult time.
Your most recent release ‘Get Down’ saw you delving into the realms of tropical house. What were your main inspirations for the track?
Main inspiration for the track was pushing myself to get out of my headspace at the time. I heard the vocals and the spoke to me, the rest kinda just came. I guess you could say it was a moment that was purely emotionally driven. I needed positivity at the time so I tried to make it myself, “Get Down” is the result.
As for future releases, can we expect more of the same from you in terms of genres? What do you see yourself exploring next?
In terms of genres I would say this type of tracks has been my “signature” the last couple of years. There some element in this one that might be slightly different, but in general you will probably get some tracks in the same realm, and some outside of it. I guess you need to stay tuned in and see.
Which musical artists do you mainly take inspiration from?
Mainly I would say it more of a genre rather than artists I take inspiration from, but Marc Kinchen (MK) is someone I respect a lot as well as Sonny Fodera. My favourite instrument to use are Piano so I’m heavily into piano house music.
What artists are you loving right now?
Right now I’m loving Ferreck Dawn’s music a lot. I’m usually not that into specific Artists, but rather more into individual tracks, so I listen to a lot of artists from Tom Santa, ESSEL to Drake to name a few.
You’re from Oslo in Norway and began developing your craft for beats and melodies at the age of just 10 years old. How do you think your upbringing has shaped your musical journey?
My upbringing is the reason for my love for music and I think I would be in a bad place without the help from the world of music. Creating music has been my place of calmness, happiness and peace. In my younger days I also used it as a way of escape. I think that my upbringing is the reason for why I seek out live & happiness, and do that through house music and dancing people that follows this realm of music in terms of genre.
What does the future hold for you? Any upcoming releases you’d be able to share with us?
I got 3 releases ready, and will probably be available for your ears and dancing feet this year. Releases are sat to be released through Icons Creating Evil Art, so stay tuned in for that.
Finally, anything else you’d like to add?
I would like to thank my team for all the hard work the put into my career and help me get my vision out there. It’s incredibly awesome to know and see that someone else believes in my craft, after all these years it still humbles me. And of course the people that choose to listen to me, dance to my jams I appreciate you a lot and hope I get the change to play and dance with you where ever you are! And last but not least, you guys thanks for chatting with me!
