Back To Mine with Greenwood & Horn

No strangers to the world of music, acclaimed musicians Ian Greenwood and Ali Horn have been working their magic in music industry for many years. Their joint story actually begins over 10 years ago when Greenwood was managing The Sugarmen, Horn was their bass player, and the band’s album was actually produced by Mick Jones from The Clash. Both are also solo producers in their own right too, with Greenwood producing dance music under the guises Oscar Le Mons and Damoon, and Horn releasing his debut solo album, ‘Balcony Boys’, in 2021. During lockdown Greenwood was writing and producing again and keen to find the right vocalist to accompany his work, he called up Ali – and so the ‘Greenwood & Horn’ story begins as they reveal their stunning Indie-Balearic single ‘Dust Of Falling Stars’ on Ramrock Red Records.. DMCWorld goes Back To Mine.

The Rolling Stones – Sing This All Together (See What Happens)

Absolutely love this track, it’s from ‘Their Satanic Majesties Request’ an album they self produced in ‘67. It’s a drugged up free for all, an absolute bonkers record. Brian Jones fully taking the reins into the unknown.

Curtis Mayfield – (Don’t Worry) If There’s a Hell Below, We’re All Gonna Go

Phenomenal record. Again self-produced, starts with preaching and Curtis proclaiming “Sisters! Niggers! Whities! Jews! Crackers! Don’t worry, If there’s a Hell below, we’re all gonna go!” Followed by one of the best screams in recording history.

Baby Huey and the Babysitters – Running

Another Curtis Mayfield produced record. James Ramey aka Baby Huey tragically died in the making of his debut album at 26, I always imagine the impact he’d had if he hadn’t.

The Echocentrics – Getting away with your gal (feat. Bill Callahan)

Don’t know too much about these, I believe it’s a one man producer project from Adrian Queseda featuring a load of other artists, I love Bill Callahan and Smog so came across it a while ago, loved it ever since.

Meshell Ndegeocello – Atomic Dog 2017

This was a Spotify ’Discover Weekly’ find. Right up my alley. Love the vibe. Acoustic guitar on this record is incredible. A cover of George Clinton.

Imarhan – Imarhan (Moscoman remix)

I’ve seen Imarhan play live a few times, sensational Algerian Tuareg ‘Desert Rock’ outfit, this remix is beautiful.

StereoLab – Lo Boob Oscillator

Classic track. One of my all time faves. Love the outro.

Ultimate Spinach – Mind Flowers

Another late 60s acid act. I got turned on to this at an afters once and it blew my head off. A really lush trip.

Greenwood & Horn – Dust of Falling Stars

Feedback we got from a guy called Danny Gofton was ‘British Indie Balearic’ – we’ll take that.

Imperfect List – Pt 1 – Big Hard Excellent Fish

This was a side project of Pete Wylie of The Mighty Wah with his (I think) girlfriend at the time Josie Jones. The track is a list of 64 least favourite things and people read by Josie including ‘Fucking Bastard Thatcher, The Sun Newspaper, AIDS inventor, Overdraft like a mountain, Stinking rich female in furs, Smiling Judas’ etc

Greenwood & Horn ‘Dust Of Falling Stars EP’ (Incl. North Street West Mixes) is out now on Ramrock Red Records.
