Back To Mine With PEZNT

Croatia’s PEZNT (aka Tom Pasanec), has solidified himself in the House scene by not only managing the Blacksoul Music label, but also releasing on DFTD, Dirtybird, Defected, Strictly Rhythm, Universal Music, Warner, Toolroom and more. His latest offering ‘The Preacher’ on Blacksoul Music features Mr V. Tom has also been hard at work in the music scene producing and performing alongside the Croatian radio television Jazz Orchestra, where he performed his own productions with the live orchestra in Zagreb at the Museum of Contemporary Art. As his new remix of Martin Brodin ft Soul Samarai ‘How Good You Feel’ lands on MB Disco, DMCWorld goes Back To Mine with PEZNT.

Carl Thomas – I Wish

This masterpiece has been produced by Mike City for Bad Boy. The piano hook as the main element, besides Carl Thomas’ beautiful voice and lyrics, makes this one stand out. I love every second of it, it hits me directly to my heart. Super emotional and sexy. You can use it to seduce and flirt with a person you like, but also for curing a broken heart. Probably one of the best love songs of all time.

Kings of Tomorrow ft Julie McKnight – Finally

In music I always look for a dope groove and emotions. On this one I love how the bassline instantly puts you in the state of emotions. Simple Rhodes and piano chords go extremely well with the bassline, and the bassline is what, aside of  the beautiful voice and lyrics from Julie, makes this a timeless classic. Sandy Rivera did amazing work on this one and honestly this is one of rare tracks where I am jealous that I am not part of it. For sure it’s in my first 5 songs of all times.

Nuyorican Soul – Its Alright, I Feel It
Oh well, I am biased here. My all time favourite vocalist Jocelyn Brown with the masters of the groove MAW, aka Kenny Dope and Louie Vega… Damn dope beats, extremely infectious Latin Jazz piano chords and inspiring lyrics. What can go wrong? Whenever I feel down, this one instantly catapults me to the sky.

Armand Van Helden & Duane Harden – You Don’t Know Me

Absolutely one of the best house tracks ever besides ‘Flowerz’. Top five for me, if not number 1. Brilliant AVH sample usage trademark and infectious lyrics and vocals from Duane Harden, I instantly fell in love with it.  Probably the track I have played the most in 30 years of my career and I steel bang it.

Marvin Gaye – I Want You

No words needed here, this belongs to a bible of soul music. A true masterpiece that has been sampled so many times and it never gets boring. Marvin was simply one of a kind. Nothing but love for this one. Simply beautiful.

Thundercat – Them Changes

A new breed of Jazz musicians among Kamasi and few others, Thundercat is the one who is different and keeps my attention. His bass playing skills are incredible, but what is cool to me here is his imperfect vocal skills that are fitting perfectly with his music. Simply amazing.

LL Cool J ft Boyz 2 Men – Hey Lover

A real GOAT of Rap and Hip Hop with the amazing Boyz 2 Men, mannnnnnn this is so sexy and it works each time for me. Brilliant groove, flow, lyrics. As a big fan of Hip Hop and Rap, somehow this one always comes to my mind. Everything is so perfect.

Ice Cube – It Was A Good Day

One of my all time favourite feel good songs ever. It works on any occasion. The brilliant Isley Brothers sample and an amazing Ice Cubes lyrics helped me discover a whole gang of soul and disco artists from the 70s and that’s why I love it even more.

Robert Glasper – So Beautiful
I can listen to this one on repeat over and over. I love piano based music and this is a true example of how a Jazz composition can be brilliant even for an average listener. Robert is a master of the piano groove and definitely one of the few that contributed to the popularity of Jazz music among younger generations. I always use it to set the right mood with my friends.

Kool & The Gang – Summer Madness
“Here it is the groove slightly transformed, Just a bit of a break from the norm”, I found out about this after I fell in love with 1991’s smash hit ‘Summertime’ by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, that used the main melody as the sample hook. Another feel good song that I can’t imagine my life without.
